Pfisterpunkt, Tobias Pfister (Tenor Saxophone, Electronics), Noah Punkt (Bass, Electronics)

Like a painting by Hieronymus Bosch brought to life, this masterpiece of early Italian silent cinema blends biblical themes with fantasy, Gothic elements and wonderfully obscene imagery. Despite its excessive sensationalism and sensuality, Milano Films’ production of the first canticle of Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy” established cinema as the “seventh art”, both in Italy and abroad. With impressive special effects, extraordinary production design and an exorbitant budget, “L’Inferno” was the first blockbuster in film history – an international hit running for around three hours. And although only a third of this footage has survived, the work is still regarded today as one of the most fascinating literary adaptations of that era.
This early horror film is set to music by the duo pfisterpunkt. Starting in an acoustic setting, Tobias Pfister and Noah Punkt are currently exploring the possibilities of their electrically amplified instruments: saxophone and electric bass. In this intimate yet rich setting, they enthusiastically surrender to the flow of events and explore the themes of space, microvariation and repetitive sound patterns. Blind trust and tactile surges accelerate the pace. Unanchored and bottomless, at times also extensively and delightfully directionless. Floating, pulling, pressing and strolling. Electrically modified, abstracted and deconstructed.
