Cleaning Women, Tero "CW04" Vänttinen (DIY Instruments), Timo "CW03" Kinnunen (DIY Instruments), Risto "CW01" Puurunen (DIY Instruments)

This brilliant attack on bureaucracy makes all other satires look tame: A hopelessly lazy office worker tries to get his job back by looking for a ‘grandmother’ - an influential bureaucrat who can write him a letter of recommendation. For the worker, the search becomes a labyrinthine journey through the bureaucratic jungle. Kote Mikaberidze's brutal attack on bureaucracy doesn't mince its words and delivers a firework display of visual techniques, special effects and stop-motion animation reminiscent of Dadaism, early film farce and the young Eisenstein.
The Georgian satire from the Soviet era is set to music by the experimental Finnish band Cleaning Women, which plays exclusively with self-made instruments, repurposed washing machines and discarded household appliances and has already toured the whole world in its 20-year career, from China to Canada and from Russia to Mexico. The event takes place in collaboration with the Zurich Silent Film Festival, which is organised by the Filmpodium and the IOIC. The event is organised in collaboration with the Zurich Silent Film Festival, a co-production of Filmpodium and IOIC - Institute of Incoherent Cinematography.
