Marina Mello (Harp), Bit-Tuner (Electronics)

"Even now I feel again the emotions that the film aroused in all of us. When we left the cinema, we started to build barricades ourselves. The police had to intervene before we could stop." (Luis Buñuel, Mon dernier soupir)
Repeatedly declared the greatest film of all time, but also repeatedly largely censored for fear of the supposed influence of its ideas, the film tells the story in five parts of a naval mutiny in 1905 that leads to a full-blown revolution. While in other hands this material might degenerate into clumsy propaganda, Eisenstein uses images of such dynamic compositional power and editing of such edge-of-your-seat precision that it is impossible not to be swept along.
This classic of Soviet revolutionary cinema is set to music by the Brazilian harpist Marina Mello, who takes a rather heterodox approach to this very classical instrument, and the Swiss live electronic musician Bit-Tuner, who is known for his intricate rhythms and deep, driving bass music. The two met on the IOIC Fitzcarraldo tour through the Amazon and have scored numerous silent films together in Brazil and Peru, both as a duo and in larger formations.
