Tim & Puma Mimi (Live Electronics, Voice)

The origins of silhouette film can be traced back to the venerable art of Chinese shadow theatre, which dates back over 2,000 years. In this art form, transparent, two-dimensional figures are moved in front of a light source positioned directly behind a screen, causing their outlines to be projected onto the surface. It is, therefore, only a short step from shadow theatre to the theatre of light. The pioneers of early animated film made use of this technique and adapted it to the art of animation. With this first feature-length animated film in cinematic history, Lotte Reiniger has secured a firm place in the history of animated film.

The music of the Swiss-Japanese electro duo Tim & Puma Mimi can be heard, amongst other places, in the Hollywood remake of *Ghost in the Shell* and the Netflix series *Good Girls*. Their latest, fifth album, ‘More or Less Tim & Puma Mimi’, draws inspiration from Cibo Matto, Yaeji, Stereo Total, Deerhoof and Knarf Rellöm – and combines electro with trip-hop and glitchpop. Using their Fruitilyzer synthesiser, they coax sounds from fruit and vegetables and occasionally play on their partner’s electrically charged body. No wonder their fans include, amongst others, Boris Blank from Yello.

The event takes place in collaboration with the Zurich Silent Film Festival, which is organised by the Filmpodium and the IOIC.
