Germaine Dulac and Maya Deren created films that break away from the conventions of the medium and go beyond instruction and entertainment, films that are lyrical and take the film itself out of its everyday life. Beyond the dominance and productivity of the dream factories and in a counter-movement to the easily consumable and coherent film, these two pioneers captured reality, experienced as fragmented and incoherent, in dream-like moving images.
The films are set to live music by the Argentinian vocal artist Constanza Pellicci and the Swiss harpist and singer Linda Vogel, who expands the sound spectrum of her instrument through the use of effect pedals and new playing techniques. A duo with two voices and a harp, the likes of which are rarely heard.
