This year's traditional slapstick children's programme features an (almost) all-animal cast and many an animal surprise: The four short films relate humans and animals in an extremely humorous way: a monkey lights a man's cigarette and starts playing cards with him, justice is sought in a Western parody played entirely by animals, and a monkey disguised as a human is thrown out of his parents' house and moves to the American West to find his fortune there. Obviously, this type of animal performance inspired the one and only Buster Keaton to play a talented, albeit unruly, monkey playing a human in "The Play House" in virtuoso fashion.
The short film programme is set to music by two Bernese improvisers, the voice artist Andreas Schaerer and the drummer Julian Sartorius. The intertitles are translated live into dialect for children.
