The sun rises between America and Europe

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s first US-produced film is a song of man and his wife that could play anywhere, any time, where the sun rises and sets in the turmoil of the city or under the open sky of a farm. Life always means the same – at times bitter, at times sweet, tears and laughter, sin and forgiveness.

The quartet surrounding the charismatic German alto and soprano saxophonist Nicole Johänntgen brings together four young musicians from four European countries. Alongside singer and violinist Ingrid Hagel (Estland), double bassist Stefanie Kunckler (Switzerland) and percussionist Dorota Piotrowska (Polen) she breathes new life into this timeless and placeless classic in the here and now.
