The Haunted Screen

The first unofficial film adaptation of Bram Stoker's romantic horror novel is an ingenious precursor and benchmark for almost all later 'Dracula' film adaptations. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau makes virtuoso use of the technical, poetic and emotional effects of the medium and - by depicting the incursion of the demonic into the bourgeois idyll - creates a dark reflection of collective fears in the Weimar Republic. An undisputed masterpiece of German Expressionism.

Murnau's film is set to music by Víz, the singer, cellist and live electronic musician Réka Csiszér from Transylvania, and by Dadaglobal, the live electronic musician David Daniel, who, coming from a classical cello and piano background, was guided into the world of live electronics at an early age by nothing other than his artistic urge to move. Beguiling vocals, distorted strings and synthetic corridors meet fine, intricate rhythms here.
